Prepare for Pandemic Diseases in Developing Countries
As time passes, the risk of disease increases and it starts worrying people. It especially worries people who don’t have a
good medical background or someone without any Health insurance. It also worries people who don’t have immediate
access to clinics or hospitals.
HIV, Swine Flu, Dengue Fever are some well-known pandemic diseases. Over 2.5 million people die due to such diseases
each year, around three-quarters of the 2.5 million people living in either developing countries or undeveloped countries.
Take, for example, Swine Flu (H1N1). Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few days, you will know the world just
faced a deadly swine flu pandemic that originated from Mexico. Last year over 20,000 people died due to swine flu just in
Mexico. This is just ONE example of the many diseases. People die due to such diseases each year.
Hospitals and clinics are in desperate need, especially in developing countries. We hope that that the house of ECOSOC will
be able to come up with some good ideas that can and will make a difference in the future.
3. Unifying North and South Korea
Nowadays, there are lots of problems and issues that need concern, such as global warming,
littering, and racism. But there is one particular issue of importance which is to reunite North and
South Korea once again. This issue is being considered, but success is unlikely. The US is interfering
with the relationship of both countries, as North Korea says. There is a huge wall in the middle of
the two countries, and nothing else in the open land. This division happened during the Korean
War. Both countries were at war. South Korea had the UN support, while North Korea had the
People’s Republic of China and the Soviet Union. Should they be reunited? Most people say that
they shouldn’t, because of the conGlict they have had for the past 5 decades. It is known that North
Korea will likely say no, so could South Korea. No one can be sure if or when they will be reunited.

Germany
Since Germany is located in the heart of Europe, it has many neighbors. Nations touching its eastern boundary are the
Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. The total area of Germany is 137,854 square feet, a little bit smaller
than the state of Montana in the United States. Germany includes Jlat lands, hills, lakes, rivers, mountains, and large
areas of forest.
TOURIST PLACES IN GERMANY
The best place to go when you are in Germany is to Frankfurt as it is the old imperial city on the Main. It is one of the
most important commercial and economic centers in the country, with the headquarters of the Bundesbank, the
leading German stock exchange and numerous major banks. Numerous international trade fairs are held in Frankfurt
every year. Frankfurt has earned the names of “Mainhattan” and “Chicago on the Main”.

Prevent Racism in Education
WHAT IS RACISM?
Racism is a developed attitude that includes unfriendliness by a group of “favored” people toward the unfavorable
position of another group, premised solely on skin color or race. Some authors suggest that racism and white racism
may be similar, but deJining racism as a primarily white problem does disservice in two ways. It ignores the fact that
racist attitudes can breed in any ethnic group and it undermines the expressed goals of this decade's most promising
solution‐‐multicultural education. Celebration of diversity is a better foundation for racial harmony than is class
guilt.
HOW DO RACIAL ATTITUDES ?
By age two, a child notices color differences. In the next two to four years,
the child begins to identify with his or her own racial group. At that point
he or she forms preference patterns on the basis of the prevailing attitude
within the group, and not by contact with a racially different group.
Parents are the earliest and most powerful source of racial attitudes
(positive or negative), while peers run a close second. By the early grades
every child carries at least some racial stereotyping.

Today was when the real
debating started. All the delegates were
dressed very formally and business-like
which made them look very professional.
All were very excited to start debating
because they all believed that they had
very good resolutions, which they
thought would get passed. After some
lobbying the chairs Michelle and Maggie
declared the debating to begin.
The topics they would be
debating were high food prices, status of
women in developing countries and
preparing for diseases in developing
countries. Everyone was so enthusiastic
when they were speaking. Some of the
resolutions that got passed include
Denmark (Taehun Lee), USA (Jessie

BISSMUN ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE DEBATE
This morning, the Jirst debates in the Environment Committee of BISSMUN began. They maintained their level of
concentration despite the noises of the elementary school sports day outside. The chairs, Jun Su and Laura, sat at the
front of the classroom and called the delegates up to the front to declare their country’s resolution. The Jirst issue
debated was Combating Deforestation and DesertiJication. Some delegates that represent countries, such as
Australia, France, and Mexico, believed that there is an increase of deforestation of rainforests in Southeast Asia,
South America, and Australia because of logging industries, growth of cash crops, damming projects and mining. The
second issue that was debated was Promoting Sustainable Development by Reducing the World’s Reliance on Fossil
Fuels. This matter was very important because a lot of people in the world have argued back and forth about this
issue. The delegates had many opinions for this topic. The Jinal issue was a ban on whaling which has to do with
banning killing whales. Some countries like Australia support it it, but Japan and Norway are against it. It was a
compelling debate in the environment committee this year at BISSMUN, and will continue the excitement next year.
